Health is a state of complete physical, mental, social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Eating right:

‘We are basically what we eat” so maintaining a healthy lifestyle begins with healthy eating. In majority of the cases people eat more than they actually need which ultimately leads to fat storage which deteriorates the health.A healthy balanced diet should comprise all the essential nutrients including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. They should be taken in right amounts to provide adequate fuel for proper body functioning.Today most of the people are fancy about fad diets, keto diets and lacks the standard dietary recommendations needed for the body.They may be useful in short term for weight loss but in the long run they are proven to comprise health in many ways.

What includes in a healthy diet:

Diet that consists of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, milk and milk products, fish, lean meat and nuts. Avoiding processed foods, junk food which is high in salt and added sugars and carbonated beverages. Drinking 4-5 litres of water daily helps in smooth digestion and improves gut health.

Regular physical activity:

Apart from Eating right, physical activity plays a major role. Regular exercise can help in boosting blood circulation and oxygen levels and strengthens the heart and overall functioning of the body. For instance, hitting the gym, brisk walking, jogging, playing a sport, or doing household chores are some of the physical activities .On an average 30 minutes of moderate exercise everyday is proven to maintain healthy body weight. It can improve mental health and minimise the risks of type 2 diabetes, heart attacks and some cancers, lowers blood cholesterol levels and aids in developing healthy bones and muscles, feeling energised throughout the day.

Sleep:

Getting enough sleep is  another factor contributing health.At least 7 hours of sound sleep is recommended for a healthy person.Limiting the use of electronic gadgets and going to bed and waking up at the same time every day helps us in getting sound sleep.Body performs repair and regeneration during sleep, so providing proper rest to the body is a must.Consumption of alcohol and cigarette smoking can cause harmful effects and compromises the quality of sleep.

Mental well-being:

The most neglected yet important part is Mental Health. Although most of the people don’t want to speak about it publicly but it has to be taken into consideration.Surrounding with positive people, having positive thoughts and affirmations, opening up to someone we trust,Writing a journal, showing gratitude, taking a break are some of the practices for mental well being. Meditation and yoga can help in calming the mind and unwinding the everyday stresses.

Healthy lifestyle is not a one day process and it needs to be practiced over a period of time cultivating all the factors that contribute to healthy living. Taking one step at a time, providing the needs of the body and making self care as a priority, anyone can achieve a lifestyle that can make them healthier, stronger and happier.
